Villa San-Juliette Winery is a new operation that is building a winery just north of Paso Robles on Cross Canyon Road. The owners are award-winning entertainment producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick from American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance and America's Got Talent fame.
They purchased a 168 acre vineyard and has since replanted with premium varietals suited to the Paso Robles appellation. In 2008 they released their first wines. Adam LaZarre is the winemaker coming from nearby Hahn Estates where he made wines for the past eight years. The new winery and tasting room should be open in late Spring, 2009. We will be following the development of this operation so stay tuned!
On September 1, 2008 Adam LaZarre came on board as winemaker at Villa San-Juliette Winery. Adam is making the transition from Hahn Estates Winery were he has been the winemaker for the last 8 1/2 years.
Adam first got a taste for California wines while serving in the Navy, stationed in Alameda California. Upon leaving the Navy Adam attended California State University Fresno. Adam is very passionate about taking the best fruit that the vineyard has to offer and crafting a very special wine.
When first meeting winery owners Ken and Nigel and walking through the vineyard it didn't take long for both parties to decide that Villa San-Juliette was to be his new home. Both Adam and his fiance Angie, who also works in the wine business here on the Central Coast, are excited to be at Villa San-Juliette.
If you are traveling through the Paso Robles wine county you should make a visit to one of the oldest winery names in the area. Rotta Winery is tucked back off Highway 46 West on Winery Road between Vineyard Drive and Las Tables Road. It has gone through a recent makeover with a very attractive and cozy tasting room.
The wines here are dry farmed and head pruned which limits their crop but intensifies the fruit with more flavor. Try their Cabernet and their Zinfandel.
